Do Not Become Slaves of Men
We were bought at a price with the precious blood of Jesus Christ. He owns us. He is our only Lord and Ruler in spirit and in truth. This is precisely the reason it is shameful and far beneath our status to let another person dominate us.
One of man’s many sinful passions and desires is to dominate other people and make decisions in things great and small on their behalf.
It happens often that when two people are friends, one of them has a stronger human spirit than the other one, and it becomes easy for the one to make decisions for the other one, apparently with good intentions. This can degenerate into one person virtually becoming the lapdog of the other. This is extremely degrading to the weaker person, just as it is a sinful abuse by the stronger person.
The same thing can happen in marriage. A woman’s sinful inclination to rule over her husband is a very well-known fact. She imagines she is so much wiser and simply cannot see it differently, thinking that she is doing a necessary good deed by dictating what her husband must do and not do.
Every once in a while it happens in various assemblies that women, on the strength of their talents and by misusing their gifts of the Spirit, assume leadership, to the point of becoming the main leader of an entire movement or church denomination. They can dominate men and women to an alarming degree. If they cannot do it any other way, they satisfy their desire to dominate through prophecy or interpretation of tongues. For example, when they say, “Thus says the Lord,” it is definitely not the Lord who is speaking; it is the domineering woman who expresses the desire of her soul.
Unfortunately, such “Jezebels” are also found among believers in these days and likely have existed throughout the ages. What we read in Revelation 2:18 ff. is very significant. The leader of the church in that place lived an excellent, personal life. Jesus Himself praised him for his love, his service, his faith and his patience, and that his last works done in faith and love were more than the first; yet he was so pathetically weak that he allowed that woman Jezebel, who called herself a prophetess, to teach and to beguile God’s servants!!! In other words, in spite of everything else, he lacked the wisdom and courage to put her firmly in her place. God held him responsible for this state of affairs. God had something against him, against him who otherwise lived such an excellent life!!!
This can teach us something!
Among other things, we have been informed of a case where such a domineering woman, even an older, single sister has decided when other people’s children should be spanked. There is no end to all the madness that has come to light through such human or satanic control.
A few years ago, a movement arose in South Africa with a woman as its main leader, who through prophecies dictates Old Testament commandments and new inventions of various kinds to believers—in stark contrast to God’s Word—with the result that those who are deceived and impressed by all these inventions are completely bound, hand and foot. And this terrible movement is now spreading in Europe.
How blessed it is that we have God’s clear Word! “Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.” 2 Cor. 3:17. This liberty that we have of serving the Lord according to our conscience is one of the most precious things we possess! Woe to him who wants to rob us of this liberty! It is true liberty.
Glory to God! We want nothing to do with any kind of dictatorship! Do not become slaves of men!
