What Is Man?
What is man? Man is like grass and his glory like the flower of the field. Nevertheless, man is so precious that God will appoint him over His handiwork. Mankind is so precious that angels have been sent out to serve those who shall inherit salvation.
God does not give aid to angels; He does not have a plan of salvation for them. When they sinned, He did not think of how to save them. He simply cast them down to hell and delivered them into chains of darkness, to be reserved for judgment. 2 Pet. 2:4. He doesn’t deal like this with men. He doesn’t give up on them. He does not want any sinner’s death, but He has a plan of salvation for them. They are so precious that He sent His own, only begotten Son into mankind who partook of flesh and blood just like the children (Heb. 2:14) and was found in appearance as a man. Phil. 2:8. He consecrated a new and living way for us into the Holiest, and He is our forerunner. He learned obedience by the things He suffered. He is the author and finisher of our faith and the captain of our salvation. He sanctifies, and we are sanctified. We are all of one, and He is not ashamed to call us brethren. We are so precious to Jesus once we come under His care that it will be an honor for Him to meet His Father surrounded by us as brethren. Heb. 2:10-12.
When man sinned, he was far too precious to be treated like the angels were treated. On the contrary! When by man came death, God right away had a plan of salvation ready. He let His Son be born into mankind so that He became the Son of Man; he became the last Adam. The first Adam went the way of disobedience leading to death for all of mankind. However, the last Adam went the way of obedience leading to life for mankind. Therefore the resurrection of the dead is also by a man. 1 Cor. 15:20-21. He is the firstborn from the dead. Rev. 1:5. Now it is up to us whom we will follow.
We are so precious that even if we have fallen ever so deeply in sin (1 Cor. 6:9-11), salvation in Christ can make us to be kings and priests together with Him. The saints will judge the world and even the angels. 1 Cor. 6:2-3.
Since salvation in Christ is so great and God has such plans with us, how base and evil it is of us to be enslaved by our lusts and suffer from anxiety because of earthly, perishable things! How base it is to go around offended, discouraged, living in fornication and unrighteousness!
We have been called to be conformed to Christ so that He will be the firstborn among many brethren. He has counted all the hairs on our head, and we know that all things are for our good. How base it is then to go around murmuring, dissatisfied, and complaining! Rom. 8:28-29.
Therefore: Wake up to seriousness and be conscious of your exalted state. If you do not consider “such a great salvation,” your life and your end will be terrible. Heb. 2:3.
