A Noble Man

“But the noble man has noble thoughts; and he stands by what is noble.” Isa. 32:8.

If you have noble thoughts but change them when you meet up with guile, you are not a noble man. The noble man stands by what is noble. If you find real gold, it is gold no matter what you do with it; but if the object is only gilded the gold will disappear when you scratch it and something else will come into view.

In this same way many people are gilded with Christ’s virtues. It does not take great trials before one thing or another comes to view. They have not partaken of divine nature as the gospel promises. 2 Pet. 1:3-4. Those who have partaken remain firm in the virtues of Christ irrespective of what meets them.

If we walk before the face of man, we are only gilded. Only if we stand before God’s face will our life become genuinely true. Then we are praying this prayer, “Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in your sight, O Lord, my strength and my Redeemer.” Ps. 19:14.
