Longsuffering

Longsuffering

Love is longsuffering. The more love, the more longsuffering, the longer it lasts. It is a very sad fact that as far as most people are concerned, the little dab of longsuffering that they possess at the bottom of their hearts is, unfortunately, soon extinguished. It is short-lived instead of long-lasting. People usually bear a little bit, and then a little bit more, but then there is an end to it.

This is convincing evidence that everyone in this state suffers from an appalling lack of the love of God and of Christ. Then every other good thing they might possess makes no difference.

People soon get sick and tired of each other; they get tired of listening to and looking at each other. “I can’t take this, and I can’t take that,” as the saying in Danish goes. Nevertheless, God be praised, love (and its component, longsuffering) is everlasting. It is untiring in all situations. “Tireless” is one of the most glorious words we have.

There are great opportunities for salvation and transformation for the simple reason that God is longsuffering. He would have rejected us a long time ago if He had not been longsuffering.

Now it is of the utmost importance that every single one of us becomes like Him. Let it be so!
