God’s Exactness in Blessing and Cursing
God has always been very exact in regard to blessing and cursing. He has not erred since the time in the Garden of Eden until now. God has never been a respecter of persons. He has given them His Word and has followed along carefully to see if they keep it or not.
God created Adam and Eve as perfect beings according to His own image. He loved them and gave them His Word. However, when they disregarded His Word and sinned, they had to leave Paradise. Neither could God bless Cain’s sacrifice, for He saw his heart. However, Noah built the ark in the fear of the Lord, exactly as God had commanded him. It floated and became a means of salvation for his house.
This exactness when it concerned blessing and cursing continued with Jacob and Esau, David and Saul. It was active in the flock of disciples and caused Judas to be separated. It descended on Ananias and Sapphira. Thus the Lord continues until this very day with the greatest precision by following along with every man and woman as to how they conduct themselves in relation to His Word and the laws He has put into each person’s conscience. We will be rewarded exactly according to our works, and we will be judged for every idle word.
God is no less exact in the new covenant. Jesus began His Sermon on the Mount with a promised blessing for all those who will do according to it, and He concluded it with a curse for those who hear it but will not act according to it. He has counted all the hairs on our head. He knows each step we take, each thought we think, each word we speak, and each deed we do. He keeps exact accounts of everything, and on the day when the accounts will be settled, every judgment will be so righteous that each person will have to close his mouth.
God loves us and wants to bless us. He has given us all the grace and help in Jesus Christ that we need in order to be obedient and faithful to His Word. However, if we defy all His goodness and go our own way and do our own will, we ourselves have chosen the curse that will overtake us with the greatest precision.
May the love of Christ fill our hearts so that we love His Word and obey it with joy, and may the fear of the Lord preserve us from departing from it even in the smallest detail. May the Lord’s exactness overtake us with His blessing now and for all eternity, and may our life be to His glory on the day when He brings the hidden things to the light. Let us do the good and not become weary, for we shall reap in due season if we do not lose heart. Gal. 6:9. Then God will change all our tribulations and trials into the greatest blessings and to our rich and eternal gain.
