A Marvelous, Practical, Effective, 3-Part Separation

1) The body. 2) The old man. 3) Heart and mind.

Christ has placed our old man on the cross. Rom. 6:6. This took place in and through Him. By a living faith in this fact, it becomes a reality in everyone who believes it. As far as our life is concerned, we can say that this is the most effective thing of all. It takes care of all conscious sin. In other words, it gives us a life of constant victory. It puts an end to the works of the devil in our life: for example, anger, jealousy, unrighteousness, mercilessness, vanity, conceit, anxiety, contention and division, unthankfulness, discontent and complaining, criticism and slander, lying, being offended, love of money, a desire to rule and have authority, envy, discouragement, unchastity, covetousness, etc.

How practical and liberating it is to have our old man firmly nailed to the cross so he does not continue to live in us and thus continue to commit all that transgression and mischief.

“Raised up together, and made us sit together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus.” Eph. 2:6. We have already been placed there if we really believe it. Not our body, that is obvious. God be praised for that because it would be extremely impractical, for our body is needed here on earth for a while so that the will of God can be done on earth unto salvation and edification, both for ourselves and others. It is even less likely that our old man is placed in heaven. On the contrary, he is correctly and properly nailed to the cross. What, then, is already placed in heaven? Our heart and mind!

And this is the same as saying that Christ’s mind and His essence reside in our heart, in this body of ours which now serves Him here on earth, undisturbed by the old man.

God is a God of order! What a masterly, wise order of things: The body for serving among people, with the old man on the cross, and heaven in our hearts and minds. This is the opposite of being in the wrong place or in a bad place.

Glory to God and to the Lamb!
