Knowledge—Wisdom
The Scriptures strongly admonish us to seek wisdom. The reason is that it is very necessary. The most glorious thing in existence is God’s wisdom in our hearts. Wisdom has the advantage over everything else because it does everything in the right way. It is difficult to lay hold of wisdom; it is very rare, therefore it is also very precious. On the other hand, it is easy to lay hold of much knowledge. All we need to do to acquire knowledge is to listen, and the clear light that shines in the church gives us easy access to much of it. We receive knowledge by intellectually comprehending the Word that is being preached. However, the intention is that the knowledge we receive becomes wisdom in us. The knowledge in our heads must be suffered into our hearts. Then it will become wisdom to us.
Paul counted all things as rubbish for the knowledge of Christ. Phil. 3:8-10. We have received everything that pertains to life and godliness through the knowledge of Christ. 2 Pet. 1:3. According to this, we understand that it is vital to possess knowledge, because this knowledge is meant to become wisdom to us. When Paul counted all things as rubbish for the knowledge of Christ, it was so that he could gain Christ; and Christ has become for us wisdom from God. 1 Cor. 1:30. We must have the knowledge of Christ to gain Christ, who is the wisdom of God.
“Behold, they have rejected the word of the Lord; so what wisdom do they have?” Jer. 8:9. When Christ became God’s wisdom, it was because He kept God’s Word, which is the most perfect expression of God’s will. Christ would never have become the wisdom of God if He had only known God’s will without doing it. God’s wisdom dwelt bodily in Him because He did God’s Word.
May we never reject God’s Word! It is God’s Word that becomes God’s wisdom for us. Let us make sure that the light (knowledge) we receive is translated into life. Then we can be certain to receive God’s wisdom. Then we also know that it will go very well with us. Wisdom takes her stand where the paths meet. Prov. 8:2. Whenever we must make a choice in life, wisdom will guide us and lead us on the right path.
