The Prophetic Word About Divine Nature

“We also have the prophetic word made more sure, which you do well to heed as a light that shines in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts . . . .” 2 Pet. 1:19.

Many people have paid heed to the prophetic word throughout the years, yet the day has not dawned, neither has the morning star arisen in their hearts. There were many scribes in Jesus’ days who knew everything Moses and the prophets had said, but it did not shine in their hearts when Jesus was born. They understood nothing even though Jesus was born exactly as the Scriptures had foretold. However, there were two people—Simeon and Anna—who had heeded the prophetic word in the right way and in the Spirit of God. They had been waiting for the Comfort of Israel and went—led by the Holy Spirit— to the temple where the Child Jesus was. The prophetic word became as the light of the noonday in their hearts, and their hearts were filled with unspeakable joy.

Various prophetic words are being fulfilled in our days by what is occurring in Palestine. Some people rejoice over it, but most of them regard it as a matter of course. Yet who on earth today heeds the prophetic word with a living interest and a living faith when it concerns the greatest and most precious promises in the new covenant? They are the greatest and most glorious promises given to anyone here on earth, and the essence of all of them is that we shall be transformed and partake of divine nature while we live in an ungodly and unbelieving world. Of course there are many who read these promises in the Scriptures, but who of them heeds them so that God’s light and nature grows forth in their lives? Most people keep their old nature regardless of how much they read or hear God’s Word. It does not result in any kind of glory in their lives.

One of the greatest and most precious promises in the new covenant is to enter into rest in all of life’s situations. This rest is found only in divine nature. Human nature is full of unrest, dissatisfaction, and anxiety, and it manifests itself so that it can be seen and noticed in all kinds of circumstances. This nature is truly a dark place. Nevertheless, it doesn’t matter how dark it is, the least light from God is able to drive away some of this darkness. The more we heed God’s Word with a living faith and receive it as a light that is mighty to transform us, the more this light will become our possession and nature and will manifest itself powerfully in every possible way in what is noble and good. “For the fruit of the Spirit [light] is in all goodness, righteousness, and truth . . . .” Eph. 5:9.
