Our Faith Overcomes!
“And this also we pray, that you may be made complete [perfect].” 2 Cor. 13:9. Here Paul speaks about being perfect according to the conscience. We no longer know of anything in our life that is wrong. Not only do we know what is right, but we also do it.
This seems to be beyond comprehension for many as long as they reckon with themselves and their own strength. Then it is and remains hopeless; and Satan does everything he can to mislead a person by confusing him and thus leading him into darkness.
Without faith it is impossible to please God, but when you believe, it is possible. There are tremendous powers inherent in faith that open up tremendous opportunities. “For whatever is born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world—our faith.” 1 John 5:4.
Faith overcomes the enemy, and love keeps God’s commandments. If we are to love our neighbor, we have to overcome the enemy that hinders us—namely, self-love—and then the way is open for love. If we are to be righteous, faith has to overcome the desire for unrighteousness that is in the flesh, and then the way is open for love to do righteousness.
It was faith that felled Goliath when David, before he put the stone in the sling, prophesied of Goliath’s death and about God’s honor and greatness. Faith overcomes all opposition that wants to hinder us in the race. When the disciples were with Jesus in the boat, there was a strong wind so that they were afraid, they awakened Jesus because He was asleep, Jesus said to them, “How is it that you have no faith?” Faith is meant to be seen by its works, for faith without works is dead, and something that is dead cannot help anyone.
Jesus says: Will I really find faith when I return? This is a certain kind of faith, not just any kind of faith, but an overcoming faith, the faith of which our Lord Jesus Christ is the author and finisher. When we understand what it actually concerns—namely, that we are called to be conformed to Jesus’ image by walking in His steps—we must believe this with full assurance in our heart. Jesus was always perfect in His life and always did His Father’s will.
So then we go into battle “in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water.” Heb. 10:22. When we do that, we can prophesy beforehand how it will go: from victory to victory, from strength to more strength, from faith to greater faith. May we succeed for Jesus’ sake to the glory of the Father.
