We Are Chosen to Serve God
Just as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before Him in love.” Eph. 1:4.
It is comforting to know that God saw us before the foundation of the world was laid. God saw that there was usable material for the great building that He wanted to build in His time and that He could get a servant out of that material. As far as God was concerned, our life was sealed and predestined before we were born. This is wonderful, and we are sure to hear more about it later.
“For whom he foreknew, He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the firstborn among many brethren.” Rom. 8:29. He also knew us since the world began, and He has determined to conform us to Jesus’ image. This explains the feeling we had before we were converted. We were drawn to God even though we didn’t realize it before we were converted, but then we understood that we had everything in God and nothing in the world.
We must see and sense God’s will with us. It is not only a matter of forgiving us all our sins, but we shall bear fruit for Him, fruit that lasts, and we shall be fellow workers of the grace of life.
“And having been set free from sin, you became slaves of righteousness.” Rom. 6:18. We shall be servants of God for which He has chosen us and predestined us since the world began. Now He is molding us for that purpose, desiring to make us perfect for the work of ministry, for the edification of the body of Christ.
“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you; before you were born I sanctified you; and I ordained you a prophet to the nations.” Jer. 1:5. Here God says the same thing over again, namely, that the Lord has taken us out from the thousands in this world before we were born in order to mold us into usable servants.
“Then said I: ‘Ah, Lord God! Behold, I cannot speak, for I am a youth.’” Jer. 1:6. We always have excuses ready because we look at ourselves and reckon with what we can do instead of going ahead in faith and confidence toward God. We must believe what the Word says and not continue in our slothfulness, for the Word promises us tremendously great and wonderful things.
“But the Lord said to me, ‘Do not say, “I am a youth,” ‘for you shall go to all to whom I send you, and whatsoever I command you, you shall speak.’” Jer. 1:7. As good stewards of the manifold grace of God, each one has received a gift with which to serve the others. 1 Pet. 4:10. We must realize that we have received a ministry from God and that we shall be His servants on earth. It is a fruit of being chosen, but if you draw back, the Lord has no pleasure in you. Therefore we go in faith, taking the form of a servant—sisters as well as brothers—and let God’s Spirit, His power, and His wisdom rule. By patient and persistent exercise we become like our Master, which is what He has promised and predestined us to.
