How Do You Come From Your Wilderness?
“Who is this coming out of the wilderness like pillars of smoke, perfumed with myrrh and frankincense, with all the merchant’s fragrant powders?” S. of Sol. 3:6.
All the saints have had their time in the wilderness. It is a time of testing that God gives them. Joseph had his time of testing, and Israel had their time in the wilderness; David, too, etc. “Who is this coming out of the wilderness like pillars of smoke . . . ?” It is the bride. In the wilderness her self-interests and self-life fall prey to the fire. That becomes a pillar of smoke, but it does not smell of smoke. She is perfumed with myrrh and frankincense and all the merchant’s fragrant powders. During the time of tribulation she gains all the virtues of Christ.
It is different with the unfaithful one. When she comes out of her wilderness, she comes out bitter, despondent, dissatisfied, and disappointed. She gives off an odor of the wisdom that is from below. Jas. 3:14-16.
