Holy in All Our Conduct

Holy in All Our Conduct

“But as He who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct, because it is written, ‘Be holy, for I am holy.’” 1 Pet. 1:15-16.

Here we are powerfully and seriously exhorted to be holy in all our conduct. This is a blessed exhortation well worth taking to heart. God requires holiness in all our conduct. Nothing we do should be more holy or less holy. On the contrary, everything we do in life and ministry shall be holy; it shall be done in God’s holiness. This is how Jesus lived in the days of His flesh, and this is how we are called to live.

But how can we live like that? We can, in the same way that Jesus did. He denied Himself and did God’s will. We must go the same way. If we seek God’s will and do it in everything we do in our lives—in all our circumstances—then we are holy in all our conduct. All God’s will is holy, and we partake of God’s holiness to the extent that His will is done in our lives. The goal of God’s work in each individual is to present us holy and blameless; He chastens us for our profit that we may be partakers of His holiness. Heb. 12:10. May God give us grace not to despise His chastisement. It is through His chastening that we partake of His holiness, which makes us holy in all our conduct.

Paul’s boasting, the testimony of his conscience, was this: he conducted himself in the world in God’s holiness and purity. 2 Cor. 1:12. These are great treasures to strive for. It is exceedingly great to be called to this, especially in one’s youth. May God give us grace to strive seriously to be holy in all our conduct. Then it will succeed.
