The Body of Sin Shall Be Destroyed
“Knowing this, that our old man was crucified with Him, that the body of sin might be destroyed [KJV], that we should no longer be slaves of sin.” Rom. 6:6.
The body of sin is the sin within us, the sin that we are not aware of. But it can be destroyed; and in order for that to happen, we have to become conscious of it and put it to death by the Spirit. Rom. 8:13.
We must be willing to acknowledge the truth that we must continue to be cleansed and purified and sanctified; and in order for that to happen, the sin from which we must be cleansed must be revealed and acknowledged. He prunes the branch that bears fruit. He cannot possibly prune the branch that does not bear fruit, for that branch will not acknowledge from what it must be pruned (cleansed), and therefore it does not bear fruit.
At this point there are many who unwittingly put a stop to their life in God because they maintain their rights as natural human beings, not realizing that a man of God is to come forth.
“For I know nothing against myself, yet I am not justified by this; but He who judges me is the Lord.” 1 Cor. 4:4. When you are not aware of anything against yourself and still acknowledge that thereby you are not justified, the Lord can let His light shine. The light judges sin, and then you can put it to death by the Spirit. On the other hand, if you justify the deed of the body, it is not the Spirit who is leading you, but rather your nature, for “all that a man has he will give for his life.” Job 2:4. He will seek to save his life and does not see the hidden sin.
There are many examples of this in the Scriptures. Jesus says, “How can you believe, who receive honor from one another . . . .” John 5:44. You did not realize that you received honor from others, and the result is what we read in Romans 7:17: “But now, it is no longer I who do it, but sin that dwells in me.” It is the body of sin that shall be destroyed, and until that is acknowledged; it is like a barrier against receiving faith, which we need to have in order to please God.
Furthermore Jesus said that we should forgive our brother seventy times seven when he sins against us. Then the natural man says, “Don’t I have any rights? Is it only ‘he’ who is in the right?” Here the body of sin blocks the way of obedience to God’s Word until the person acknowledges his sin, and light and judgment tells him that he has fought against God.
It is our right to lose our life and bear the evil for Jesus’ name’s sake, and no one shall deny us that right. He will avenge us who cry out day and night to Him.
What, then, shall we do when someone backbites us, curses us, hates and persecutes us? Then we must forgive him from the heart! What happens then? Our eyes are enlightened, and we see the others in a completely different way. Before we felt oppressed; now we are on top. Previously we fought in order to save our own life from being destroyed; now our feet are standing on solid ground. Now you can give a helping hand to the one who hates you; now you can go two miles with the one who wants to force you to accompany him one mile.
Now you realize that your right is with the Lord and that you are a branch that bears fruit, which He prunes that it might bear more fruit.
“He who has My commandments and keeps them, it is he who loves Me. And he who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and will manifest Myself to him.” John 14:21. We need to have this revelation so Jesus can show us all kinds of sin that is hidden within us.
May God be merciful to all those who have received the truth in order to love it with all of their heart.
