Jesus Ate the Father
“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” John 1:1. “And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory . . . .” V. 14.
“Jesus said to them, ‘My food is to do the will of Him who sent Me, and to finish His work.’” John 4:34.
“As the living Father sent Me, and I live because of the Father, so he who feeds on Me will live because of Me.” John 6:57.
Jesus lived because of the Father in the sense that He did the Father’s will. Doing the Father’s will was His food. The Word was God, and in the volume of the book it was written of Jesus that He came to do God’s will. Heb. 10:7.
It wasn’t food for Jesus if He only heard the Word; it was food for Him if He did it. Then the Word became flesh. We can compare hearing the Word with receiving food into our mouth; it doesn’t become food for us until it gets into our stomach. There it is digested and becomes flesh in us. This is also what happens with the Word we hear; it only becomes food for us after we have done it, then it becomes flesh in us.
John was told to eat the book. It tasted sweet as honey in his mouth, but when he had eaten it, his stomach became bitter. Rev. 10:10. It can be good to hear the Word, but it is always bitter when it comes to doing it—because only then does it become food. Now we understand why there is so little spiritual life—so little strength and joy; people withdraw from the suffering. They don’t get any further than hearing the Word, believing that by doing that they have received food. But the person who is only a hearer of the Word and not its doer deceives himself. Jas. 1:22. He believes he has received food, he believes he eats just by hearing, and so his spiritual life dies out.
The Word was with God. Jesus lived because of the Father by doing His will. He ate the Father by doing the Word; He ate up all of the Father, in a manner of speaking, by fulfilling all His will. The entire fullness of the Godhead came to dwell in Him bodily. Col. 1:19; 2:9.
Jesus said that He gave His life for the world, and unless you eat My flesh you have no life in you. John 6:51-56. We need to eat Jesus just as He ate the Father. This is how we become one flesh with Him. This is the bride. Eph. 5:30-32. Paul says that this mystery is great. There are still only a few who truly understand this.
To be part of the rapture it is not sufficient only to be one Spirit with Him. If we are to be along in the rapture, we have to have become one flesh with Him to some degree. By walking in the Spirit, we become one flesh with Him and our faithfulness will become evident. Most people draw back from the bitterness in the stomach and thus never partake of divine nature. They will never be Jesus’ spouse.
Jesus said that He gave His flesh for the life of the world. Jesus’ flesh was the Father; it was the Word He was living. I am one flesh with Jesus to the degree that I live the Word, and only that flesh—the Word—can become life. The Word I have received as knowledge does not become mine unless I live it, and I cannot give it before it has become mine. If I give it before then, I have stolen it, and the Lord is against those prophets who steal His words from each other. Jer. 23:30.
There are many who know much of God’s Word, but they do not have a word from the Lord that gives life. In these days God’s Word is precious, but not because of a lack of Bibles. An entire assembly can sit there with Bibles in their hands, but if you ask if anyone has a Word, they are quiet, and if someone does get up he comes with some knowledge, a text he has studied. This does not result in life because it has not become flesh in him. It is a form of godliness, but not power.
May God raise up several in these last days who save themselves and those who hear them. 1 Tim. 4:16.
