A Little While

“A little while longer and the world will see Me no more, but you will see Me. Because I live, you will live also.” John 14:19.

Jesus walked among a multitude of people who, after a little while, would never see Him again; but the disciples would see Him and live together with Him forever. We also are together with a multitude of people for only a little while, and then we will never see them again. Should we then receive honor from such people at the expense of losing God’s honor? Should we let ourselves be plagued by the fear of man because of such people? Should we feel dejected because of something they have said about us? Should we argue with them about earthly things? They have their life in things down here, so let us not envy them since this life is very brief. They are of the earth; we are of heaven. They live for the visible things; we live for the invisible things. They are dead, but we are alive and will live forever.

Yes, may it be obvious and visible that we are alive in all our thoughts and conduct. “But mercy and truth belong to those who devise good.” Prov. 14:22. May we be so alive in the good that we go around devising good things during the day. May we pray for the spirit of revelation in that direction. We can only overcome all the evil with the good.

We are together with evil and difficult people—sinners of all kinds—for only a little while. We have trials and tribulations and we suffer hardship for only a little while. In a little while all this will be finished as far as we are concerned. In a little while we will be together with Christ and the saints in eternal joy and glory. We will never again be tempted nor will we meet sin or any kind of evil. If this is always clearly before us, it will not be difficult to hold out.

“For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, is working for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory, while we do not look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen.” 2 Cor. 4:17-18.

“In this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while, if need be, you have been grieved by various trials, that the genuineness of your faith, being much more precious than gold that perishes, though it is tested by fire, may be found to praise, honor, and glory at the revelation of Jesus Christ.” 1 Pet. 1:6-7.
