Vitamins That May Be Lacking in the Diet

Just as your diet may lack certain vitamins that your body needs, so the spiritual food that we enjoy may also lack certain vitamins.

There is a particular vitamin that is rarely found in spiritual food. Let us call it the heavenly vitamin D.

The Song of Solomon is among the writings that contains the greatest amount of this vitamin. The most common vitamins are contained in the many words, all the light, and all the truths that judge us through and through, outwardly and inwardly, producing acknowledgment of sin and repentance, cleansing us and purifying our thoughts, words, and deeds. There are truly valuable vitamins in all these precious words and truths.

In spite of all this, we are easily weighed down by the fact that sin so easily ensnares us, just as we also hear from and are given to understand by our fellow men that things are not going well with us. Also, Satan does not neglect the opportunity to tell us faithfully that we might just as well give up.

In that case, getting some powerful doses of “heavenly vitamins” will work miracles. Let us go to the Song of Solomon. It contains enough of them. For example, the Bridegroom addresses us as follows: “Rise up, my love, my fair one . . . .” Are we really fair, captivating, and attractive? Yes, this is how we appear in His eyes! That alone is of importance. How we appear in other people’s eyes doesn’t mean a thing. See Chapter 2:10 and 13.

What is so fair about us? Why did He court us? What is it that has so captivated Him? It is our noble desire and longing for God’s kingdom, for the mind and virtues of Christ, for sanctification, for the fruits of the Spirit, etc., etc.

Sorrow over ourselves and our folly also has the same effect on the Bridegroom. This sorrow confirms our noble desire.

As our noble desire is being satisfied, our life, our thoughts, words, and deeds also become pure, good, and fair. The end of the whole matter is this: “You are all fair, my love, and there is no spot in you.” Ch. 4:7. How noble our thoughts and intentions have become by the powerful grace of God! How pure and good and fair they are! And our words—they are such choice, good, profitable, honorable, fitting, well-chosen, and fair words! And our actions are sound, good, and weighty. How beautiful it is that we do not say and do much of what we would have said and done otherwise if He in His great grace and goodness had not saved us and liberated us from it!

Please listen to the Bridegrooms amazing words: “You have ravished my heart, my sister, my spouse; you have ravished my heart with one look of your eyes, with one link of your necklace.” Ch. 4:9.

The eyes are the light of the body. The contents of our heart—our life’s content, our noble mind, our noble thoughts, our noble longing—shine from our eyes.

Just as the sensual desire shines from the eyes of a harlot, deceiving sinful men, so the noble mind shines from the eyes of the saints. Only one such glance at the Bridegroom is sufficient to win His heart, even to move Him deeply. He is captivated by you; He is mightily captivated by you, precious brother and sister, far more than you suspect, far more than you have even dared to believe! Believe now! Just believe! Even the fact that you believe, that also increases His devotion to you and for you. Even if your love for Him is not as great as it has all reason to be, His love for you is, nevertheless, as it should be! In any case, it will not fail!!! You can rest assured on that point!

One of the links of your necklace has also increased His love for you, dear brother! Queens and other women usually adorn themselves with pearl necklaces. The pearls that adorn the bride of Christ are the virtues of Christ, the fruits of the Spirit: love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faithfulness, meekness, moderation, humility, etc., etc., the works that are the product of these qualities.

All the colors of the rainbow shine from such a necklace!

What a precious, priceless necklace this is around the neck of His fair bride, she who has those pure, sparkling eyes!

How captivated He is by her, and how He longs for her!

Soon there will be a wedding!

Blessed is everyone who has thus prepared himself for His soon return!
