“And Who Is He Who Will Harm You if You Become Followers of What Is Good?”

1 Peter 3:13

This verse contains a glorious revelation. The person who is a follower of what is good and who greatly delights in doing what is good by keeping God’s commandments is immune to, vaccinated against, unreceptive, insensitive to, and uninfluenced by all evil. No one can do anything bad to such a person! God be praised!

This tells us plainly and decisively that when a person complains that someone has done something bad to him, then that person has also given himself away. He has thereby said that He is not a follower of what is good. He may have done some good, but he has not followed what is good, because Peter says that then no evil can harm him.

Experience confirms this perfectly. Each and every one whose life and joy is to do good to all, and to do it zealously, clearly notices that no one and nothing can harm him. On the contrary! All of it just serves to increase his glory! First of all it becomes a straightforward, new golden opportunity to overcome evil with good.

If someone takes away my “coat,” I immediately have an excuse for giving him my “cloak” as well. This is precisely my great joy and delight. If someone gave me a “coat,” I would also have a new source for joy, not because I just received something, but by experiencing and seeing another person’s goodness and generosity. How joyful it is to see that goodness rules and is making progress in people’s hearts!

But tell me honestly now: Who can harm such a person?
