“To Whom Much Is Given,
from him much will be required.” Luke 12:48. Jesus said that the poor widow who gave two mites gave more than the many rich men who gave much. Why is that? It is because she gave all that had been given to her, while the many rich men (who gave much), nonetheless gave a little of all that had been given to them.
This also applies to all other goods, both earthly and spiritual. Much work is required of those who have very good health, and from those who have much free time, much devotion in prayer is required besides other services that require sacrifice. He who has wisdom is required (among other things) to make himself freer so he can better devote himself to serving in the ministry of the Lord.
He who has a talent for writing and who has much that is good on his heart is required to write many edifying articles. If you have much light, you are also required to make use of it, and if you have much room in your house and much bedding, you are required to receive correspondingly many overnight guests.
I hope that many of the friends feel that God in His great grace has given them much. Then I would like to send this greeting to all of you: “From him much will be required.”
