“Seek the Lord and His Strength.”
The person, who is wise, seeks the Lord and reckons with Him, even with Him alone. However, fools seek and reckon with, admire, and greatly hope for something else. As it is written, “Some trust in chariots, and some in horses; but we will remember the name of the Lord our God.” Ps. 20:7.
He does everything that pleases Him in heaven and on earth. He wounds and He heals; He puts to death and He makes alive. He exalts and He abases. He makes poor and He makes rich. He lets everything possible succeed or fail. He opens, and no one can shut. He shuts, and no one can open. Glory to His great and holy name!!!
Why should we even reckon with something else or someone else? How foolish that is since He decides and does everything anyway?
Psalms 105 and 107 are particularly well suited for strengthening us in our faith in Him who alone is mighty, so that we fear and love Him and exclusively reckon with Him.
Let us consider excerpts from Psalm 105:
He called for a famine over the land.
He destroyed all the provision of bread.
He sent a man before them.
He increased His people greatly.
He made them stronger than their enemies.
He turned their heart to hate His people, to deal craftily with His servants.
He sent Moses, His servant, and Aaron.
He sent darkness, and made it dark.
He turned their waters into blood.
He killed their fish.
He spoke, and there came swarms of flies, and lice . . . .
He gave them hail for rain.
He gave them flaming fire in their land.
He struck their vines also and their fig trees.
He spoke, and locusts came, young locusts without number, and ate up . . . .
He destroyed all the firstborn in their land, the first of all their strength.
He also brought them out with silver and gold.
He spread a cloud for their covering.
He brought quail . . . .
He satisfied them with the bread of heaven.
He opened the rock, and water gushed out.
He gave them the land of the Gentiles.
Therefore: He called, destroyed, sent, increased, made, turned, sent, sent, turned, spoke, gave, gave again, struck, spoke, destroyed, brought them out, spread, brought, satisfied, opened, and gave again.
Why? “That they might observe His statutes and keep His laws. Praise the Lord!” V. 45.
Likewise a small excerpt from Psalm 107:
He led them forth by the right way.
He satisfies the longing soul.
He fills the hungry soul with goodness.
He brought them out of darkness and the shadow of death.
He broke their chains in pieces.
He destroyed gates of copper.
He destroyed barriers of iron.
He sent His word and healed them.
He delivered them from their destruction.
He commands and raises the stormy wind.
He calms the storm.
He guides them to their desired haven.
He turns rivers into a wilderness.
He turns dry land into pools of water.
He let the hungry dwell there.
He also blesses them, and He does not let their cattle decrease.
He sets the poor on high, far from affliction.
“The righteous see it and rejoice, and all iniquity stops its mouth. Whoever is wise will observe these things, and they will understand the lovingkindness of the Lord.” Ps. 107:42-43.
