Led by the Spirit of God

Led by the Spirit of God

“For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God.” Rom. 8:14. The Spirit of God must necessarily be the driving force in our life. The Spirit will work the same way that a good and powerful motor does which powers a boat evenly and with certainty on the right course on a wild and turbulent sea. If the motor stops, the boat will capsize, and those who are onboard are instantly in danger of losing their lives.

Once the Spirit of God is quenched in our life, we will be immediately cast back and forth by our lusts and people’s opinions, and we are in danger of being eternally lost at any time.

An automobile with a good motor can be driven smoothly and securely, not only downhill on an even highway, but also up the steep hills. But some automobiles always have problems. They have to be pushed to get them going, and as soon as they have to climb a steep hill, they stall. Many “believers” can be compared to such an automobile. They have to be pushed to get them going when it comes to getting them to give a testimony, pray a prayer, or do God’s will in other things. It looks promising for a while, but they lose heart at the slightest sign of opposition and are ready to give up. Such people need to give their hearts completely to Christ and press powerfully into Him in prayer for the power of the Spirit. When this power enters their hearts, they are like an old automobile with a new engine that can now easily climb the steepest hills. Or they become like a block of steel that has been magnetized and can now easily lift several tons of steel.

God’s power is great, and by it we can overcome the entire dominion and power of the devil. It creates life in dead bones. Ezek. 37:5. Testimonies, songs, and music will be more spontaneous. Those who are slow and slothful can become souls of fire in God’s kingdom, and the one who was formerly weak and wretched in every way can now stand up in the power of God and say, “I am strong!”

An automobile without a motor runs just as nicely downhill as one with a motor, but the great difference between them becomes obvious when they have to go uphill. The great difference between those who are spiritual and those who are carnal is constantly revealed in life’s many adversities and trials.

The Word has to melt together with faith in our heart, and we must listen to the Spirit’s working in our inner being if we are to keep this power.

The same power of the Spirit that has been poured out into our hearts was also the driving power in Jesus’ life, right from when He was a little boy until He finished His course. This power of the Spirit also drives us forward in the same blessed steps on the new and living way that leads right up to the Father’s throne.

We experience that God’s Spirit will always drive us in an unswerving direction toward the goal—contrary to all human self-will and fleshly sense. Satan tries a thousand different things to get us to change the holy course of our life from the great goal of being conformed to the image of Christ, because he does not want us to have such glory. However, no power can move us off this course if we have the right attitude and desire to fight for the faith that has been delivered to the saints.

If we have the Spirit of God as a driving force in our life, we will always be fully occupied with spiritual labor and the work of faith. Those who are led by the Spirit will be driving forces in the church for the sake of the growth and increase of the kingdom of God, and God will be glorified by their lives.
