Temptations
The outcome of our temptations determines our state for time and eternity. Each temptation determines the nature of our future life. The result of giving in to temptation is sin; and sin, when it is fullgrown, brings forth death.
If we endure in temptation we have the victory, and we are already partakers of eternal life. If we endure we shall rule with Him, and if we suffer with Him we will be glorified with Him. So that we can overcome in temptation, God has prepared everything for us in such detail that not a single temptation can be too hard for us to bear.
According to our nature we would rather sin than suffer; therefore we can only overcome in temptation by suffering in the flesh. To this end we have also received power by the Holy Spirit coming over us so we can endure in temptation. This is the very thing that is so blessed: the power that has been given to us, and the degree to which the tempter is allowed to tempt us is measured by God so that there is sufficient power to endure in temptation. We do not overcome by being lifted above the temptation or by being led through it; the victory is ours if we are firm in enduring in the temptation and not giving up.
“No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it.” 1 Corinthians 10:13.
Blessed is the man who endures in temptation. The tempter has to leave when we hold fast to such words of faith. Temptations mold us and give us opportunities for growth. They make us into pillars in the temple of God and give us the crown of life.
Since there is not a single temptation that we cannot bear, let us rejoice over this, and with all our heart be very diligent so it may become reality.
