The Lord’s Book of the Law

“Then Hilkiah the high priest said to Shaphan the scribe, ‘I have found the Book of the Law in the house of the Lord.’ And Hilkiah gave the book to Shaphan, and he read it.” 2 Kings 22:8.

Hilkiah had made a very important discovery when he found the Book of the Law in the house of the Lord. As long as the Book of the Law was lost, they really had nothing concrete to go by, and their entire worship of God was on a human level, according to their own ideas.

When King Josiah heard the words of the Book of the Law and compared them with the current conditions in Israel he was horrified and tore his clothes. King Josiah, who was upright and wanted to do what was right in everything, immediately asked his closest advisers to inquire of the Lord concerning everything that was written in the Book of the Law. When it became clear to him what the words of the Book of the Law said, he did not hesitate to put them into practice. He called together the elders of Judah and Jerusalem, the priests, the prophets, and all the people, both great and small, and read to them everything that was written in the Book of the Covenant that had been found in the house of the Lord. Then they made a covenant before the Lord to follow Him and keep His commandments, His testimonies, and His statutes with all their heart and all their soul. Immediately there was a radical change throughout all Israel. The words of the Book of the Law were to be carried out in every detail. The temple of the Lord was to be cleansed from all defilement. The priests whom the kings of Judah had appointed were immediately removed since they had not been ordained according to the pattern of the Book of the Law. After a radical purification in all of Israel, the Jewish people kept the Passover. Such a Passover had not been kept since the days of the judges who judged Israel.

The Lord’s Book of the Law has been hidden down through the ages in the body of Christ, and the religious multitudes have never found it. They have worshiped God in their own way according to the doctrines of man. The religious world today is in chaos, with a great variety of opinions and ideas. But God be praised for the Book of the Law that was found within the body of Christ. All the upright who get to see it and compare it to the worship that is currently practiced will have a desire to tear their clothes—just as King Josiah did. If they have had a different understanding and various opinions before, their ideas will all be brought to nothing when confronted with the Book of the Law. Now the upright are in the process of being perfectly joined together in the same mind and the same judgment and in speaking the same things. 1 Cor. 1:10. They are now fully aware of what is required of them according to the Lord’s Book of the Law, and their hearts are burning for others to enter into its blessed laws as well. The temple of the new covenant—which is the church of the living God— is now being built according to the words of the Book of the Law; and priests according to the order of Melchizedek, whose lives are in full harmony with the Book of the Law, are entering into the work. In this book you will find laws for everything, and no one needs to go astray as long as the Book of the Law is at hand and is interpreted by the Holy Spirit. We must not stray one millimeter from the Book of the Law. Every one ought to enter into its blessed laws with great reverence and joy.
