If We Are Faithless, He Remains Faithful

2 Timothy 2:13

Unfortunately, it is fairly common for God’s children to be more or less faithless or disobedient. As seen in several instances, it is evident that it can be difficult to know how this should be viewed or evaluated. Some people say, “I believe that God also has disobedient children on the way to heaven.” Others say, “The disobedient will be cast into the lake of fire,” and again, others say that it is impossible to be obedient.

Some scriptures seem to indicate one thing while other scriptures seem to indicate something else, and others again remind us of the third point. However, all of it is true and correct. We must not accept one thing and omit the other. We find the right thing by adding one thing to another. It is not always either/or; it happens that it is both/and.

If we are faithless, what is it that God remains faithful to?

  • 1. To promote those who are faithful and to mold them into the bride of Christ. Luke 16:10-12, 19:17; Rev. 14:4-5.
  • 2. To forgive those who repent of their faithlessness and to raise them up again seven times seventy times. To show them longsuffering as well as to give them new opportunities—up to a certain measure. 1 John 2:1-2; Prov. 24:16.
  • 3. To reject and thrust aside those who do not sincerely repent of their disobedience or unfaithfulness; who would like to be saved but who do not want to refrain from sinning. Prov. 24:16.
  • Those under #1 and #2 are saved, but those under #3 are lost. However, if we divide them into only two groups, we will not discover the complete harmony in God’s Word.
