Wholeheartedness

Wholeheartedness

It is a fact that our life conforms precisely to the goal which we have set for ourselves. This is a truth that is becoming increasingly clearer. If we turn our eyes inward to discover our true state, we will find that perfection is usually quite far off even though the work of grace is to equip us thoroughly for every good work (2 Timothy 3:17), and that we might adorn the doctrine of God our Savior. Tit. 2:10.

Here we need to experience a spiritual breakthrough. A chick in an egg has to break its way through the shell, and the seed has to be so strong that it can break through the crust of the earth in order to come to a new life. If we do not possess the strength to maintain the high goal of our life in our daily battle and strife, we will not attain to an exalted life. When we have passed from death to life, it is not for the purpose of living for ourselves, but to be totally united with a form of doctrine that is so highly exalted above everything that is earthly and sensual that one often asks in unbelief, “Is it attainable?” Then we need these good words of faith, “But God be thanked that though you were slaves of sin, yet you obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine to which you were delivered.” Romans 6:17. It was not anything extraordinary to begin with, but look at the glorious result! They walked wholeheartedly before God in the form of doctrine to which they had been delivered. This gives us great hope and comfort because the same thing that was possible for them in those days is just as attainable for us now. God is the same; He has not changed. However, this is the very point on which we fall short with our “wholeheartedness.” Therefore we need to make a wholehearted covenant with God to be firm in what we have been delivered to. It is the only way in which we can receive the power we need so we can get our body to go along when it comes to doing God’s word. Then God Himself is our strength; for His eyes run over the whole earth to strengthen mightily those whose hearts are wholly with Him. 2 Chronicles 16:9.

To what can we ascribe the blame for this lack of power, this desire to give up, and this unbelief in the Word? A divided heart! God is faithful and does not lie. His powerful support is experienced abundantly wherever the right condition is present: a whole heart! Then who is there who dares not set a high goal for his life, and who is afraid of being put to shame by siri s strong power when God has promised to be so blessedly near? 2 Corinthians 6:14 to 7:1. Therefore let us be nourished by the good words of faith and of the doctrine because we receive both life and strength from food. There were not more than two men—Joshua and Caleb—who believed God with all of their hearts and were prepared to enter into battle for the land of Canaan and the difficulties that followed. Neither are there any more in these days who attain to the high goal they have set for their life than those who, like Joshua and Caleb, live the life and doctrine of Jesus in reality.

If it is our life’s goal to follow our Lord and King, in truth and in spirit, on white horses in the heavenly host, then our life and works will surely testify to it. If not, then He who has eyes like flames of fire will see to it that our Life s part in eternity will be in the lake that burns with fire and brimstone. Revelation 19:14 and 21:8.
