A Biblical Church

April 1930

A Biblical church cannot be founded or established by man, for the church is the body of Christ; it is a work of creation. For example, belonging to a Methodist church or to a Pentecostal church is a human concept that everyone understands. Nevertheless, spiritually speaking, it is meaningless. It is completely meaningless!!! On the other hand, to belong to the church in Rome or in Corinth or in Smyrna or in Drøbak (or in another place) makes perfect spiritual sense, and it means that you are among that part of the body of Christ that is located in that given place.

Now, people have also in their foolishness decided to use place names as sect names. That is seemingly a symptom of a kind of name sickness. For example, now one belongs to the “Philadelphia church” in Oslo or to the “Smyrna church” in Drammen. That is the same as the church of Rome being in Corinth; the church of Corinth being in Rome, or the church of Bergen being in Fredrikstad. Alas! Alas! What childishness!!! One becomes a “make-believe” church.
