Doing Something Great

Is it not important to accomplish something great? Yes, great in God’s eyes, but not in the eyes of man! Because Jesus said, “For what is highly esteemed among men is an abomination in the eyes of God.” Luke 16:15.

There are therefore different kinds of greatness. By God’s grace I have had the opportunity to reflect on various attempts at doing something great; and in one sense they have also been successful—namely, by ending up as a great disaster!!!

The various “big shots” have managed to remain standing to be displayed as a warning to their contemporaries and for future generations. They managed to get their vain and proud thoughts exposed, which is undeniably a great benefit.

Nevertheless, it is far more commendable to perform a great and lasting act of submission—of humility—for that is truly great and exalted in God’s eyes. In addition, one becomes God’s intimate friend, which is most rewarding for time and eternity.

A better and greater achievement does not exist. Through humility all grace and all the promises are ours. 1 Pet. 5:5. Only there do we become suited for what is exalted in God’s eyes. Only there can we learn to know God’s perfect will and also become suited to do it. There we are molded to perform what no one else on earth can accomplish. 2 Cor. 12:9.

Blessed is every one who enters into rest down there in the lowly places! Rom. 12:16. He has already begun to enter into that eternal rest.
