The Truth Blazes Its Own Way

The truth is a power that breaks through obstacles. The truth has as much power to cause upheaval as nature itself does. Granted, for a time it can be hidden by lies and deceit, but sooner or later the truth bursts through and overthrows lies. Through the truth, the lie becomes even more repugnant.

And Jesus said about Himself, “I am the way, the truth, and the life.”

For centuries, deceit has untiringly sought to bring Jesus of Nazareth and His power of salvation to nothing; but again and again the truth has broken through, always bringing in its wake healing and liberation. Everyone who has enough moral courage to stand up and speak out on behalf of the truth has become a prophet in his own time. As often as not, they have had to pay for the truth with their own lives; but as time has gone by, it is evident that they were right after all. Now they stand there, shining like stars in the dark firmament of their age. The fathers killed the prophets, but the children build their tombs. The power by which the truth broke through the darkness was hated, but the light that came forth from it was loved. This is how those who are faithful to the truth become the light of the world.

By truth rulers reign and princes establish justice. Yet people reject the personified truth—Jesus Christ. For centuries people have rejected Jesus as King. Nonetheless, He continues to break through the powers of deceit, so that today He is nearer than ever to the day when He will break through and take His place on the royal throne. Eventually, all other governments will falter and come to naught. The nations are in turmoil; they elect and depose at a whim. But when the Prince of Peace breaks through to take power, we will have a Prince who reigns by the power of an eternal life. His authority does not come from the people. They rejected Him long ago. His kingdom is eternal and He receives it from the Father. All other kingdoms are slowly but surely nearing their end. They may flourish for a time through the strength of their sword, but in the end they are doomed because they chose not to have Jesus Christ as Lord and King in their hearts. Jesus is the King of the heart. What other king can be given such a title? He has been tried in the lowly places and is well acquainted with the heights. He will judge the lowly with justice, and righteousness will prevail by His hand.

This blessed King was crucified with this inscription over His head in three languages: “Jesus of Nazareth, the King of the Jews.” He is in truth the King, and we, with all our hearts, have chosen Him as our King for time and eternity. He is the Truth. What power can prevent Him from breaking through to that royal throne to which He was born?

This is the Messiah, whose return we now await. We see that one government after the other falters and fails. They are unable to unite the people through their laws and regulations. Lawlessness is already at work, and the countless laws become just a pile of paper that everyone ignores. People live virtually any way they want. The law can only keep the worst crimes in check. But when He, the Prince of Peace, comes, He will destroy all that causes unrest. He is capable of doing this because He Himself is filled with God’s wisdom and power. The ungodly cannot destroy Him, because He has conquered death and has destroyed the one who had the power of death, that is, the devil.

This King is marching forward, and all the citizens of His kingdom are now preparing themselves. They are purifying and cleansing themselves in order to please Him who hates all unrighteousness. For the kingdom He is establishing is one of righteousness, and no wrong can endure in the presence of Him whose eyes are flames of fire.
