On Christ’s Sacrificial Death on the Cross and Our Own Surrender to Him
As Christ offered Himself on the Cross, so I must offer myself willingly, with all my soul, to God as a holy and pure sacrifice.
What more does He ask than that I give myself entirely to Him? He cares not for anything else I may give Him, it will be imperfect, for He does not seek our gift but rather He seeks me. Just as it would not be enough for you to have everything if you did not have God, so whatever you give cannot please Him if you do not give Him yourself.
When I offer myself wholly and completely to Him, give myself entirely for God’s sake—my offering will be well-pleasing and accepted. But if I rely upon myself, and do not offer my free will to Him, my offering will have no value, and I am most assuredly not in “union with Christ.”
This is why so few are spiritually enlightened and inwardly free—they do not know how to deny and renounce themselves entirely. Jesus word stands: So therefore whoever of you does not renounce all that he has, he cannot be My disciple.
