We can see now why Paul was able to say, “Yes, and if I am poured out on the sacrifice in the service of your faith, I rejoice, and rejoice with you all. In the same way, you also rejoice,” he says to the Philippians. Do you rejoice when others are poured out for you? Rejoice with me, Paul says. How it pains us when those in need are unwilling to have anything done for them. Take heed lest there be ‘self’ even in this. See Christ, for the joy set before Him endured the Cross. There is joy in sacrificing for others. “My joy I give to you!” says Jesus on the eve of Calvary! Who will follow it and who will be poured out? The secret of a fruitful life is, in brief, to pour yourself out for others and want nothing in return for yourself, and that you also are crucified.
