Anointed with fresh oil. Psalm 92:10.
Oil is a sign of the Holy Spirit. Testimonies by souls who have been anointed with fresh oil are like balm to other souls. That which is spontaneous and fresh quickens the innermost heart. When a person possesses fresh oil, old as well as new truths are presented with anointing as opposed to dry doctrine and knowledge, which may be remnants of a former, vibrant life or from acquired knowledge. Let the light that we have received burn. Luke 12:35. Each new light must be added to the light we have already acquired, with all of it being placed on the lampstand. Light that is hidden is evidence of a cowardly heart, but light in dark places can make a wasteland fruitful. Therefore always have fresh oil, and let the light burn and grow in strength. Let your progress be evident to all. However, with an increase in light and progress will follow increased opposition from all enemies of the truth whom you meet on your way. You know that the fool’s delight is in foolishness, and that he considers understanding to be ignorance. He thinks that his folly is greatness and considers all light to be inferior to his folly. Much of our work will now be to cast down these arguments and castles in the air. 2 Cor. 10:4-5. Our weapons of warfare are to be mighty in God. Just as light dispels darkness, so truth dispels lies. Our victories are the Spirit’s victories. We shall stand after we have overcome all (Eph. 6:13)—for this is the inheritance of the servants of the Lord (Isa. 54:17), says the Lord. Just go ahead boldly by following 2 Corinthians 6:3-10—by commending yourself by the word of truth, by the power of God, by the armor of righteousness on the right hand and on the left. During all this, pray without ceasing from the heart—exercise yourself by praying inwardly; i.e., let your heart always be open for it so that the eternal heartbeat can echo in the depths of the soul without ceasing. What our great High Priest is praying before the Father’s face must also be what the Spirit is praying in our soul; for Jesus says that the Spirit takes from what is His and imparts it to you.
