Notes That Were Found in Aksel Smith’s Bible
Be Not Deceived
We think of this as being far away, but it is written to us. It is near us. It is a step aside, a step into the flesh. This is the very beginning that predicts the larger consequences. The rails that lead to the wrong tracks are only half an inch from the right tracks, but if you connect to them, the train will end up on the wrong tracks. The tracks of the flesh are very near you. Satan is zealous to get your life’s train onto the wrong tracks of the flesh. A little bit of being offended, a little bit of greed, a little bit of envy, a little bit of “light” behavior, and it is enough for your life’s train to steam onto the sidetracks of the flesh where so many spiritual lives have been damaged and where many a conscience has been wrecked.
Jesus and the Church
John saw Jesus among the lampstands. Try to be alone. Lock yourself in, and lock people out. Then you will be able to take them in with you; for where Jesus is, there is the church; and where the church is, there is care and love.
Those who are the foremost pay attention to the fullness from the depths. The fullness is the balsam, healing, and anointing that flows over into life itself by the heart being broken into pieces and crushed by God.
It is written about Jesus that He descended, and that He ascended to fill all things. The more a soul descends, the more he loses his life and abases himself, and the more he is filled and can fill the needs in his surroundings. He will fill the needs of the church according to the fullness he has received as a result of his faithfulness to his God.
Jesus ascended and filled all things. The more we descend, the stronger we will become in our spirit and will then be able to fill the needs of the church.
The Prince of Life
Is there life in chasing after amusement, or in superficial party laughter after an argument between husband and wife? Can you offer that same life to someone whose husband or child has just died? No! It is not a substitute. But there is life in Christ.
Can you offer the same amusement to a dying person? No! But there is life in Christ. Can you offer it to someone who is lonely, to the seeking rich young man, to a person who is despondent? Unfortunately, it would not last. If you offered him wine so that his eyes glazed over and his cheeks turned red, his words became fiery and his heart became warm—is that life? No! It is the life of this world!
God raised Jesus from the dead, enforced justice, and did not approve of their actions.
“Silver and gold I do not have,” if Peter had possessed any, people would have become zealous, or if he had said, “Here we can have fun.”
The Prince of Life is hidden behind a cover of reproach. Has Jesus proved that He is the Prince of Life? In the prophets. Lie down at the gate of the temple, you who are lame from your mother’s womb. It is called Beautiful; it is the best place. There you will not receive silver or gold, but you will receive help.
I Am the Door
The power of God in our will is the fullness of divine power so that our will, which is our desire to do God’s will, becomes like a cocked trigger on a gun; and as the bullet flies away at the least touch of the trigger, so this energy and desire will, at the least hint from God, get us to run on the way of God’s commandments with joy.
Asking for prayer every fourteen days through the laying on of hands is like the clocks that need to be wound up every fourteen days. Such dry, disobedient people should be admonished to do God’s will. Then they would receive the Holy Spirit.
The physician says that the tongue is coated. This also applies to one’s spiritual life. It is coated with gossip, which is the reason for losing one’s spiritual appetite. The cure: Tell the tongue to rest.
Saul’s Spear
Jesus did not revile again when He was reviled. Do not let other people’s anger destroy your meekness. Your meekness shall radiate most clearly through the very words that are thrown at you. Even in these days, Saul’s spear is hurtling towards a David. But David escaped.
Rest in God. Stand firm in this calmness of mind. A calm mind is clear. You see the spear coming; you avoid it calmly. The spear misses you. You were not wounded. Your unshakable rest was not disturbed. You are like the immovable Mount Zion that the nations tried to storm. It is written about Jerusalem that she will be inhabited in her own place—Jerusalem. Zach. 12:6.
David did not use a sword against Saul. He ruled over himself. He was to be king and rule over Israel. You, too, are destined to rule in life by the One, Jesus Christ. And you will be the same after the spear was hurtled at you as you were before it was thrown. Jerusalem shall be in her own place—Jerusalem!
Keep the assembly pure, and love will flourish.
The Lord is weighing your heart while you are giving your gift.
A Very Heavy Stone
The one who is weighty is solid. Weight in the spirit results in firmness in life. Paul calls out: Do not be moved!
God lets these truths about the inner life which we proclaim in Skjulte Skatter, and by other means, succeed. The truth makes us rock solid. Many people are offended because we go to war against sin. We say: You can call sin sin as much as you wish. You can hate sin as much as you like. Therefore the sharp words that we use about sin are also used at our meetings and Bible studies.
When the most effective arguments have almost no effect, we consider them as wasted effort.
Put the doctrines into the context of experience. Extract the doctrines from life—from your circumstances.
