I was in Horten recently at which time I had the opportunity of seeing the accounts of the publication. It is evident that correctness, faithfulness in little things, and righteousness leaves much to be desired among people—not only among unconverted people, but among converted people, among the believers, among those who proclaim Christ as their righteousness.
Wherever you investigate the circumstances of life, you will arrive at the same conclusion. If you ask at a business establishment if there are many people who do not pay their bills, you will receive an affirmative reply. If you ask if this also applies to converted people, you will receive the reply that, on average, it is worse with them. If you ask at a dairy what kind of people mostly ask for butter, you would be informed that they are mostly those who have little or nothing to pay with.
All this goes to show that there is much talk but little of what is good and right, and that people love their lusts more than God and the righteousness of His kingdom—that they love more to avoid perdition than they love that which is pure and good and righteous.
Jesus says, “He who is faithful in what is least is faithful also in much; and he who is unjust in what is least is unjust also in much. Therefore if you have not been faithful in the unrighteousness mammon, who will commit to your trust the true riches?” Luke 16:10-11.
However, His Word is not highly regarded!
The account books of Skjulte Skatter prove that only very few people pay at the right time (in advance), and that there are also few who pay what they owe at the end of the year. A few people who do not bother with the paper are sufficiently compliant that they cancel it and pay what they owe, but most of them neither pay nor cancel their subscription. They are far too slack and unfaithful to do any of the above!
A few of these are probably willing to pay, but their works are not comparable to their willingness. However, it is the works that are of vital interest. Moreover, most of them probably applaud when they hear that Christ is their righteousness and godliness; that we shall not look at ourselves but look only at Christ; that they are perfect in Him; that the Lord delights in them and sends His angels to bear them up in their hands.
May God have mercy on His people. Amen.
