The Government Is on His Shoulder
Paul says, “Do not be unequally yoked together with unbelievers.” 2 Cor. 6:14. We must not put our shoulder to the task and unite with the world in order to further a matter. That is the same as being unequally yoked together. We have a yoke that is much more beneficial, which is the yoke of Christ. Our shoulders are there for this yoke, and the yoke is there for our shoulders. Set free from the burdens of sin and the things of this world, our shoulders are available for other burdens.
We don’t need to be unequally yoked together with unbelievers; we have exceedingly many opportunities always to be yoked together with believers whose motto is: For Christ and the Church.
Freed from sin, we have entered into the ministry of righteousness.
A believing woman complained to a brother about the difficulty of knowing God’s will. The brother said to her: “Your neighbor is a widow and has nine children. Have you never felt that it was God’s will for you to help her?” “Yes,” the woman answered, “But if I begin to help her, I will have to continue with it.” Of course she had no desire to do that. She definitely had a desire to have peace and joy and grace. She liked that personal enjoyment of salvation; she appreciated the liberty she had. However, she did not want to put her shoulders to the task in order to bear burdens. She didn’t mind “doing her little bit,” but she declined to bear burdens all the time. She was afraid to be stuck with them. What if Christ did that to us? Christianity without a yoke is not Christianity. “Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.” Gal. 6:2.
Jesus put His shoulders to the task in order to bear all the sins and the needs of the world in order to save those who want to be saved. Therefore the government is also on His shoulder. We will partake of His salvation to the same degree that we partake of the burdens.
Jesus says, “If anyone serves Me, him My Father will honor.” John 12:26.
