(Some Things to Think About)

September 1916

1. There are two types of peace:

  • (1) Peace because you overcome the difficulties;
  • (2) Peace because you allow the difficulties to remain without resolving them.
  • The first peace is the peace of Christ. The second is the peace of the world.

    2. There is more hope for a person who finds himself in God’s darkness than for one who lives in his own darkness.

    3. If you do not understand to keep your body in subjection, your words will be esteemed lightly.

    4. When you feel you are safe among the friends, then people will notice you.

    5. Do not tell God’s Word like a story. Thrust it into hearts like a sword, in the power of God.

    6. You find true rest by being awake.

    7. Trying to build a dwelling place for God with unfaithful people is like trying to build a building with stones that run wherever they want.

    8. Wait until the time of harvest to reap the fruits of your labor.

    9. When plans fail, the vanity of the heart is revealed.

    10. One faithful soul whose heart clings to the Lord is better than a thousand that you can bind to your flesh.

    11. Allow God-fearing people to rule, and confusion will vanish.

    12. Putting your hope in an unfaithful person is like trying to catch a bird with your bare hands.

    13. Wisdom cries out a warning against folly.

    14. In the long run, the counsels of the heart cannot be hidden.

    15. Don’t try to excuse luxurious living by saying “I don’t want it to go to waste,” for you must rule with wisdom.

    16. When you give your heart to earthly treasures, you lose the ability to strengthen those who are seeking the things of heaven.

    17. Before a person falls outwardly, they have fallen in their heart. Everyone can see the former, but your brother perceives the latter.

    18. He who enlarges his heart enlarges the borders of his tent.
