The Hidden Things Will Be Revealed
“For there is nothing hidden which will not be revealed, nor has anything been kept secret but that it should come to light.” Mark 4:22.
A person who passes from darkness to light will experience that the above statement is true; and those who remain in darkness will, in the end, also discover that it is true. The reason things are kept secret is so that they can come to light. The day that secrets are revealed will be the day that God is glorified and His judgment praised.
Why will secret things be revealed? Would it not have been better if they had remained a secret for all eternity?
The secret things are among those transgressions for which Christ died. They are among those things that have received the judgment of God, which was borne by the sacrificial Lamb. When the full light of day shines on those things from which the blood of Christ has power to cleanse us, that light will expose those things as sin. The person who has hidden these things will have to bear his judgment and shame, both in relation to God and to the people from whom he has hidden these things.
Even if the person who has kept things hidden does not benefit when they are revealed, God’s power will be revealed when it becomes clear that He is able to bring the hidden things to light. The desire of His heart will also be revealed, because through Christ He has provided salvation from those secret things; but men loved darkness rather than light. They covered their sin, concealing it in the darkness until God caused the light of day to shatter the laws of darkness, bringing the evil out from its hiding place into the light—that evil which has caused so much suffering and sorrow for innocent creatures who have been the victims of all this evil that has been hidden.
So if you are hiding anything, bring it into the light now, for the time has come for judgment to begin at the house of God. Nothing that is hidden can be revealed without sufferings, but do not think these are the sufferings of Christ. Rather, they are sufferings that are required to make us clean. If you want to call them the sufferings of Christ, you must understand that they are His sufferings to win the body and not His sufferings in the body that lead to sanctification. If your brother has hidden something from you and this causes you suffering, it is your love for him that is suffering, because your brother, who is keeping something in darkness, is not totally reciprocating your love to him. For you these are the sufferings of Christ, but if your brother cleanses himself, his sufferings are the sufferings required to be made clean.
Throughout the ages, so many hidden things have accumulated that you would think there would not be enough darkness to hide them all. What power there is in the light! In spite of the enmity of darkness, in spite of the desire to keep things hidden, not only can light illuminate the enmity of darkness, it can also drag out the hidden things and judge them!
This exceedingly great authority over Satan and his darkness is a part of the power God demonstrated when He raised Christ from the dead and seated Him at His own right hand in the heavenly places. Eph. 1:18-23.
The hidden things are hidden by the body and have their source in the body. The lusts in the body carry out these hidden works. The cross brings these things into the light of day. The prince of darkness loses his power because he cannot tolerate the brightness of day. In the light, the hidden things are judged and put to death by the blood of Christ.
What are we to do? Let the hidden things be brought into the light, and the blood of Christ will cleanse you from all sin. “Should everything that is hidden be brought into the light, and to whom shall I reveal it?” you ask. The answer is: God Himself will point out the sacrifice and the person who is to slay the sacrifice. It must be the leading of the Spirit that does this. If you listen and are obedient, you will understand it. Never bring your sacrifice as a slave does, preserving your own life and hiding it behind the sacrifice. Your life must be in the sacrifice if you are a true son.
After you have cleansed yourself, the Spirit of wisdom will come upon you, as Sirach says. Light will give you victory over darkness, its princes and its children. This light contains the power of the resurrection. In this light and in this resurrection power you can go on to the next sufferings, which are the sufferings of Christ. In these sufferings, sin in the flesh is condemned. These are not the sufferings required for cleansing from sins already committed; they are the sufferings required for the cleansing of indwelling sin, or the body of sin. This indwelling sin is not the result of my personal sin, but rather the sin inherited from my forefathers. We cannot say that it is concealed, because everyone will admit that they have the law of sin in their members. The exception to this is those very deluded people who think they no longer have sin in the flesh—in spite of the fact that they sin daily.
That is why there is no condemnation for the sin that we have inherited. Everyone will be judged according to his deeds. Inherited sin is the sin that is lurking at the door, “and its desire is for you, but you should rule over it.” Any sin that I rule over is my slave, the slave of Christ; but if sin rules over me, I am the slave of sin.
Think about these things. Be courageous enough to dare to think about them. Do not ask your pastor to think for you, because usually you are the source of his livelihood, and your bondage and darkness provide his income. When the wolf comes, the hireling flees. He cannot help you in your spiritual need.
Those of us who have received grace from God must take up the task of breaking the bands of those in bondage and setting the captives free. Most people who are taken captive and bound are watched over by a hireling. If you want to set such people free, you will first have to do battle with their prison guards. But they are not as dangerous as they seem! One Word of God can bind them.
