“Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed.” The really free man has nothing to cover up. Counterfeit victory is always a struggle; whatever we do, we must do it by our own efforts. Yes, we ask Him to help us, and yet we feel we must do a lot to help Him, as if He needed to be helped! In real victory, He does it all. We do not need to help. We realize that the battle is His, 1 Sam. 17:47. And remembering that Christ is our life, we do not need to conceal anything. We do not need to conceal Christ. The things we do need to conceal are those things which come from Satan, not from Christ; from our sinful nature, not from our renewed nature. It is when we cease from our own works, and let God’s grace do, what only He can do, then this wonderful experience becomes ours. Remember, we cannot help Him do this work for us; and if we try to help Him, we hinder His work.
Jesus Christ offers us freedom from the power of our sins on the same terms as He offers us freedom from the penalty of our sins. “. . . if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed.” And He had just said, “whoever commits sin is a slave of sin.” That means any sin. “For you are not under law but under grace,” and “My grace is sufficient for you.” “Thanks be to God who gives us the victory.”
Will you take it now by simple faith in His Word?
