Spiritual Weight

John the Baptist says about Jesus: “His winnowing fan is in His hand, and He will thoroughly purge His threshing floor.” Matt. 3:12. The weight of the grain of wheat is revealed by the winnowing fan. The heaviest grain goes the farthest, whereas the chaff falls right down or is blown away. This is also the case with souls. There is a spiritual weight and a spiritual lightness. You can observe the truth of it in your own life. If you have been superficial one day, you will soon notice that you have become light in your spirit; your words have no weight, and it is as if they have no effect. They almost sound like empty phrases—even in your own ears. However, if you are living in intimate fellowship with God, you will soon notice that you will gain weight in your spirit and that your words will be weighty and valuable.

If you are in a light spirit and you come together with a soul who lives in the depths of God and possesses the weight of the Spirit, you will immediately notice your lightness and superficiality in his presence, because his words are weighty and he possesses worthiness and authority in his spirit.

Faithfulness in the light is what gives your spirit weight and content. If you do not live according to the light God has given you, then the light will be like weights in God’s scales, and you will notice in your spirit that you have been found wanting when compared to this light.

Live in the light—in faithfulness—and you will become a precious jewel in God’s eyes, weighty and valuable. People will feel that even your presence is to be valued in their life. You become weighty in your spirit through the eternal treasures that God imparts to your soul. You will become like a house that is filled with glorious and pleasant merchandise.
