Revelations of the Spirit
are given to each for the profit of all. 1 Cor. 12:7. They are never given for something that is unprofitable, because if that were the case, God would not be good and wise. Many people imagine that they meditate on God’s law, but they do not. They do not want to receive revelations of the Spirit that are profitable and which are given unto life because they are given in connection with living sacrifices (Rom. 12:1) and therefore in connection with sufferings. Phil. 3:10. Because of their ignorance and hardness of heart, people want to have a good life here, that is, in their flesh. They desire carnal wisdom, and they want others to accept it too: first of all so they can make a good show in the flesh, and secondly, so they can glory in the flesh of others. Gal. 6:12-13. Do not follow such people, but rather follow Paul who says that he conducted himself in simplicity and godly sincerity, not with carnal wisdom but by the grace of God. 2 Cor. 1:12. If you think you have a desire to meditate on God’s law, then you must not leaf restlessly through the pages of the Bible trying to find something extraordinary, but rather listen to the Spirit’s voice. Then you will find that your heart will stop at the simplest words—the very ones that are closed to a majority of the people but are revealed to babes and those who associate with the humble. Rom. 12:16. He who meditates on the laws of the Lord—which are spiritual and unchangeable—will thereby find knowledge and additional spiritual knowledge. He who seeks to discover all other knowledge—knowledge that does not lead in the direction of partaking of divine nature—will not even find his way in outward things, not to mention the fact that he will find nothing that pertains to the inner life. Be wise and choose! “Wisdom is justified by all her children,” and only by them. Luke 7:35.
