You Have to Stand in the Right Place If You Want to See Right
If you watch a skilled craftsman working on an object, you will see that he looks at it from a number of different angles to get a complete picture. It is just the same spiritually. You must find the right position if you want to see clearly. It is written that Jesus “sat opposite the treasury and saw how the people put money into the treasury.” Mark 12:41 [Emphasis added].
If we want to get to the heart of a matter, we must stand directly in front of it and look it right in the eye. Then we will usually discover that the widow’s two mites are more valuable to God than the extravagant gifts of the rich.
Throughout Jesus’ life, He made a habit of facing every situation and every person directly. The result was that He was able to see and judge clearly. That also brought Him hatred and persecution. He became so perceptive by doing this that the scribes and Pharisees, because of envy, handed him over to Pilate to be crucified. Matt. 27:18. They were no match for Him in spirit or in wisdom.
We see how Moses courageously faced Pharaoh, and we know the result. Joshua met the inhabitants of the land straight on, and God gave him the victory.
If we want to get anything out of our life, we also must face every person and every situation in which there is impurity straight on and directly, because as iron sharpens iron, so a man is sharpened by standing before the countenance of his friend.
