Shepherd and Prophet

Preface

Kåre J. Smith turned 60 on November 14, 2004. It has been my privilege to have known him for more than 40 of those years. For this reason, it gives me great pleasure to see this book published. The reader will gain an insight into an extraordinary and exciting life which, in the course of time, has had a tremendous significance for many people all over the world. The author’s childhood is described in what he so aptly calls his “childhood kingdom.” When as a young man Kåre J. Smith chose to follow God’s calling in his heart, he began on a course that would bring him to Jesus’ words: “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations.” Obedience to this calling has given him the vision that has today permeated the entire movement of which he is leader.

He has an exceptionally great love for people, a characteristic he inherited from his parents and grandparents. His love of the truth and unfailing faithfulness to his Lord and Master has meant that he quickly came into conflict with people who regard godliness as a means of gain. Significantly, the first article he wrote to Skjulte Skatter was based on the word: “He who oppresses the poor reproaches his Maker.” Those who have been in need about themselves and have felt the pressure of their inherited human nature have always found a defender in Kåre J. Smith.

Kåre has a God-given gift to discern spirits. It doesn’t take him long to tell whether a person is seeking his own or whether he is seeking the truth. Then, based on the content and wisdom that God has given him, he brings the right words at the right time.

Kåre J. Smith is a thoroughly genuine and righteous man whose greatest joy is to share with others all the things he has received from God, earthly and spiritual. In this book he shares his thoughts and experiences with the reader, who receives a glimpse of Kåre’s deep insight into God’s Word and the wisdom he has received from heaven. If you read this book with an open mind, you cannot help but be encouraged to live a better life and to pray for a greater love for your fellow man.

This book also documents some of the events the church experienced in the 1990’s, and it will thus be a valuable historical resource for the generations to come.
