Foreword
Brother Aslaksen passed away on May 10, 1976. He died in his home, peacefully, quietly, like a candle going out. He was over 88 years old. He was buried in Hønefoss, Saturday, May fifteenth. A great many people were present from many different countries. After the funeral we ate together and had a memorial service. There wasn’t nearly enough room for everyone at the memorial service, so on Sunday we continued at Brunstad with a conference where we had two more memorial meetings.
At the end of January 1976, Brother Aslaksen had begun to grow weaker. The last conference he had attended was the New Year’s conference. At that conference he had a large poster put up that said: Faith in the Word of Life is the strongest power that exists in the universe.
After the New Year’s conference he traveled to Stavanger. That was his last trip. For a time, in the fall of 1975 he had been in Oslo every week.
We have put together Brother Aslaksen’s last messages from the meetings in Oslo, Fredrikstad, Hønefoss, and Stavanger. It’s amazing that at his age he was able to deliver such long, and especially rich, messages without any notes at all. His seriousness and burning love for people gave him such a strength. In his love for the friends and his desire that they should come to true light and a divine life, he tended to forget time.
Many years ago he took Paul’s exhortation to Titus, seriously to heart, especially the word “imprint.” “The saying is sure. I desire you to insist on (“imprint”—Norwegian) these things . . . .” Titus 3:8. This can be clearly seen in these messages. As we read them, and we see the repetition, then we who are seeking salvation are thankful for the reminder, and we are impressed with how true, how important, how necessary, how good and needful these admonitions are!
As I see it, these messages are the greatest contribution to our salvation that he could possibly have left behind. Blessed is he who senses his need of this gift.
