Letter to Elias Aslaksen, 1913/02/05

Collected Writings Volume 2 • 1912 - 1917
Horten, February 5, 1913
Dear Br. Aslaksen,
God’s grace and peace.

Thank you for your good letter. It’s been a long time since we last heard from you, so it was a joy to receive it.

The group in Sarpsborg has now split. Karl and I were there last Sunday, together with Aksel, at their new meeting hall, Fremtiden. It was a joy to attend their meetings now that they have separated. But they do need instruction, which they are also longing for. Pettersen would like you to come.

It was a joy to hear about the newly converted drunkard in Hønefoss. I’m sure you have more than enough to do up there, but, as you know, the fields of work are great. Porsgrunn also needs help, as does Drøbak. A separation must take place. We cannot drag people along who aren’t interested. It’s evident everywhere that in order to come to inner peace and edification, the disciples must be separated from the others. I’ve received letters from Thorleif Hansen in Kristiania and Tobiassen in Kristiansand; they both write very clearly.

My mother-in-law has been out selling copies of Prayer. Rasmussen, the editor, was sent 7 copies of Prayer based on an order we received in a postcard yesterday.

People have been paying promptly, but there aren’t many new subscriptions. There have been one or two cancellations as well. We don’t have an exact count of subscribers, but I imagine it’s between 1,100 and 1,200.

The paper is a lot of work, more than you would expect. But let’s hope it is a blessing.

Just these few words for now.

Warm greetings,

Yours,

Johan
