427. Easter Conference 1928
We asked God to bless our conference, and indeed He blessed it richly. All honor belongs to Him who gives gifts so abundantly—both to the evil and the good, yet especially to those who call upon His holy name.
The meeting hall seats a couple of hundred people, and it was absolutely packed. However, this was far from the most important thing—the fact that God’s Spirit filled the hall was what made the difference. In between the meetings for the adults, we had children’s meetings. When God’s Spirit started working in the children, they cried to God for salvation, and their prayers were answered. The adults, weeping and praying, saw full rows of small children give themselves to God. Friends brought children from other places with them because they had heard about the children’s revival in Horten. Brother Karl Martinsen has received special grace from God to work with the children, and he was very busy. He said that these days were the most glorious working days he had ever experienced. Many young children went home full of joy. It is incredible how musical these young ones can be. They sang and played so that it was a delight to listen to them. The music in the days of King David could hardly have been more beautiful.
No one needs any better entertainment than we experienced at this Easter conference. Many people are talented in different areas, and when God’s Spirit guides everything, the beauty and harmony are beyond compare. The congregation laughed and also wept, so we could hardly discern the noise of the shout of joy from the noise of the weeping. Read Ezra 3:11-13.
When God blesses us in this way, we become small in our own eyes, for we understand that this is from the Lord. These powers are not of this world.
We had the opportunity to greet friends from Denmark, Bergen, Hallingdal, and Kristiansand, as well as the neighboring towns.
The essence of the testimonies was, for the most part, nothing but fervent thankfulness to God for all His goodness. Everyone was free to speak, and many friends used the opportunity to praise the Lord. It was moving to see brother Schinnes from Drammen. He stood up publicly and praised the Lord that his children had been saved during the conference.
Our dear old brother Halvorsen from Oslo, a former sailor who now goes around visiting the sick, was able to liven up the congregation tremendously. He did this by sharing his many experiences of God’s amazing help—not at sea, but now in Oslo after God had gripped him in earnest. It was also good to hear several brothers from Fredrikstad. They were recently released from the bonds around their necks when brother Aslaksen held meetings there.
We are approaching our Pentecost conference with hope. Pray much for it, for we know from experience that God answers prayer. Go into your room and pray for the conference; pray that God will save and awaken young and old, that He will give His people light, and that He will give grace and strength to all the oppressed who are upright in heart. Pray that the teachings of being “crucified with Christ” will be known far and wide, so that all enemies of the cross of Christ will lose heart completely when they see the Lord’s salvation and hear His praises from afar.
Yes, we believe in amazing times, and we know that our faith will not be put to shame. Anyone who has a spark of faith and hope in Him ought to be along in the battles of the Lord. The lame, the crippled, those who are weighed down by debt, those who are disregarded in the congregations because they have no social skills, and those who are downtrodden and wretched ought to stand up and say,
“I am a mighty man.” 1 Sam. 22:2. Hallelujah. Welcome to the Pentecost conference.
