413. Prayer Day Conference 1922
The conference that was held in the new meeting hall in Horten on this year’s Prayer Day was a great blessing to us all. It was apparent that the building is not too large for conferences. Friends came from Moldøen, Kristiansand, Oslo, Drammen, Drøbak, Sarpsborg, Sandefjord, Hønefoss, and other places as well. Two sisters even came from Denmark, and one from Ålesund.
The friends are being knit together in love more and more because the secret power in the Word of the cross puts to death the enmity. People have conversations in groups between the meetings and during mealtimes. They all have something to tell or a question to ask. God has blessed us so richly that tears of joy can often be seen in their eyes. God accomplishes His purposes in all those who faithfully hold fast to the Word of the cross, those who are crucified with Christ despite fierce resistance from all sides.
By the grace of God, we have started working with the children, and this is going very well. The young children are showing great interest and eagerly look forward to each meeting.
We have purchased a row boat from one of the old frigates, through the shipyard and naval department. We will use this boat to take the children on outings during the summer. It is important to lead them to faith in Christ from childhood.
The brothers from Moldøen only rarely have the opportunity to be among us here. Because of this, they have stayed behind for a few days so we can share the Word of God together.
We do not know what God’s purpose is with all this, but we do know that the words of Jesus have been fulfilled in us during the time we have been building the meeting hall. The whole town has had to say, “What unity! See how they love one another; see how they work. Who of us could do anything like this?”
Truly, by the Word of God’s grace, and by each one keeping his flesh on the cross, we will have God on our side, and then the Lord will build the house. But a good beginning does not mean that the work is finished. There is a long way to go. We can only keep Satan out by watching and praying. That is the secret of progress. We believe that our cause is God’s cause, and that it is a righteous cause. So we go forward boldly in the power of Him who will supply all our need in glory. We have also seen God’s hand in financial matters, and we are thankful to Him for everything. God has worked in us to give and to work, and everything has been done willingly and without compulsion. Everyone has done according to what God has worked in his heart.
