358. A Hand

A hand stretches out from the throne of God! The Lord will have war with Amalek from generation to generation. Exod. 17:16. [Norw.].

Amalek is the flesh, our nature—the devilish nature and the religious nature. Jesus fought against Amalek His entire life. Moses said to Joshua, “Choose us some men and go out, fight with Amalek!” So Joshua did as he was instructed.

Amalek dwells in the wilderness. He attacked the rear ranks and all the exhausted stragglers when Israel grew weary and tired. He did not fear God. “When the Lord your God has given you rest from your enemies all around, in the land which the Lord your God is giving you to possess as an inheritance, that you will blot out the remembrance of Amalek from under heaven. You shall not forget.” Deut. 25:17-19.

We have our battle with Amalek now, the religious Amalek. But by the grace of God and His power we must not forget to destroy the memory of Amalek from under heaven.
