351. Christ as Head

One thing is our comfort and joy in these difficult times, and that is: “And He put all things under His feet and made Him to be head over all things to the church.” Eph. 1:22.

Many heads will rise up from the sea of humanity. In Revelation 13:1 we read about a beast that arose out of the sea, having seven heads and ten horns, and on his horns ten crowns, and on his heads a blasphemous name. The false prophet, the Antichrist, was also a head. But we read in Revelation 19 that on that great day of Jesus Christ, the beast and the false prophet were captured and cast alive into the lake of fire burning with brimstone.

These were heads in the service of Satan, the one who came to murder, steal, and destroy. These heads do not have eternal life within. Neither will their power last, for they will be captured and cast into the lake of fire.

There is only one head that God acknowledges, and that is Jesus Christ. All other heads pale and fade away. Satan has a work to do, but all those who become a part of his work will crawl in the dust and be destroyed. They do not have the power of the resurrection. Satan is thrown down to the earth, and neither he nor his servants will ever rise again. On the contrary, they will sink even further, right down to the lake that burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death. Rev. 21:8.

According to His good pleasure, God determined, in the fullness of the times, to establish a dispensation where Christ is the head. He will gather together in one all things in Him, both the things which are in heaven and the things which are on earth. Eph. 1:10.

We have already sanctified Christ as Lord in our hearts. There is no other head for the church. He is raised from the dead and we have been raised together with Him. His kingdom and purposes are being accomplished in the church, for He is the One who works in us both to will and to do.

If other heads arise in these times other than Christ Jesus, whether they are religious or secular leaders, we know where they come from. The Helper, the Holy Spirit, will lead us into all truth. See, I am with you all your days, even to the end of the age. He is the Leader, the Guide, the Teacher, and the Head.

But we are living in the world, yet we are not of the world. It is vital for us not to allow the spirit of the world to slip in. As long as the water is kept outside the boat, it poses no danger, but if water seeps into the vessel, then all the pumps must be engaged to pump it out again. In the same way, it is not dangerous to be in the world, but to be of the world is death and perdition.

So we can relax and be completely at rest every day and abide in our Lord Jesus Christ. He is the great Noah’s ark that rides out every storm and survives the floods unharmed.
