344. Gerizim and Ebal

Deut. 27:11-13

There are things that are to be cursed in the churches of God, and if this is not done, death will grow like a cancer in the midst of God’s assembly.

“And Moses commanded the people on the same day, saying, ‘These shall stand on Mount Gerizim to bless the people, when you have crossed over the Jordan: Simeon, Levi, Judah, Issachar, Joseph, and Benjamin; and these shall stand on Mount Ebal to curse: Reuben, Gad, Asher, Zebulun, Dan, and Naphtali.’”

Half of them were to bless, and the other half were to curse. “And all the people shall answer and say, ‘Amen!’”

If this is applied to God’s church, it is not likely that everyone says “Amen.”

“The flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another.” Gal. 5:17.

The flesh with its passions and desires is crucified and cursed in all those who belong to Christ. Gal. 5:24. If any of the works of the flesh become manifest, the whole church must say, “Cursed be all adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lewdness, idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies, envy, murders, drunkenness, revelries, respect of persons, splitting of the body of Christ, enmity of the truth, and the like.”

Keep all these things that are cursed far away from your life, and the blessing will come upon you and overtake you. Deut. 28:2.

The Spirit lusts against the flesh and curses all the works of the flesh. Therefore we must be in the Spirit and, together with Him, curse everything that comes from the flesh. If we do so, we become partakers of the fruits and blessings of the Spirit, so we can say:

Blessed be love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control,” etc. See verses 22-23.

If the blessings and cursings are not clearly proclaimed in the church, decay will set in, and the church will drift into darkness where Satan rules. Before we know it, we will have a congregation of the dead.

Many things that should be cursed are excused and defended. For example: respect of persons, party spirit, envy, greed, pride, vanity, gossip, backbiting, divorce and marriage relationships other than those allowed by God.

In our personal lives and service we do not curse what should be cursed as exactly as God would have us do it, therefore the same curse finds its way into the churches. Truth stumbles in the courts of justice, Satan gets access, and God’s saints who do curse what should be cursed and do bless what should be blessed are excluded.

Is this difficult to understand??? May God free us from darkness and murkiness and from the prince of darkness.

“He who sins is of the devil.” 1 John 2:8. “Whoever has been born of God does not sin, for His seed remains in him; and he cannot sin, because he has been born of God.”
