334. Clinging Unshakably to the Lord

“Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, and whose hope is in the Lord.” Jer. 17:7.

How stupid it is to run around looking for help from people in your time of need. Their help lies so close at hand, but it is no help at all. How blessed it is to wait on the Lord. When we do that, we learn patience from our tribulation, and in the end we gain a tried mind. We get to know the faithfulness of our Lord Jesus Christ. He who says, “Call upon Me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you shall glorify Me,” will be revealed to us.

“Thus says the Lord: ‘Cursed is the man who trusts in man and makes flesh his strength, whose heart departs from the Lord.

For he shall be like a shrub in the desert, and shall not see when good comes, but shall inhabit the parched places in the wilderness, in a salt land which is not inhabited.’” Jer. 17:5-6.

Have we not tried this and found the words of the Lord to be faithful and true? So, in the days to come, we must put all our trust in the Lord, in Him who is interested in us and will supply all our need from His own riches.

Nevertheless, we have to learn this lesson again and again before we become “like a tree planted by the waters, which spreads out its roots by the river, and will not fear when heat comes; but its leaf will be green, and will not be anxious in the year of drought, nor will it cease from yielding fruit.” Verse 8.

This is how we become when we always hold fast to the Lord and His Word. Blessed is each one who does this. In Him we find unshakable spiritual fellowship, for He is like Mount Zion which cannot be moved.
