317. Carnal Christianity
If a person, after having been converted to God, continues to walk in a human way, he will continue to be a natural man who cannot receive the things of the Spirit of God. For him they are foolishness, nor can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned. 1 Cor. 2:14. This is why carnal Christians persecute spiritual Christians and issue warnings against them, even though these people live a far better life than they as carnal Christians do. “He who is spiritual judges all things, yet he himself is rightly judged by no one. For who has known the mind of the Lord, that he may instruct Him? But we have the mind of Christ.”
This is why we constantly meet opposition from religious people, who believe that they are doing God a service by resisting the truth and resisting us. They have earned their livelihood through their “ministry,” and they fight tooth and nail to protect it, even at the cost of the truth. “But they will progress no further, for their folly will be manifest for all.” 2 Tim. 3:9. “Now as Jannes and Jambres resisted Moses, so do these also resist the truth: men of corrupt minds, disapproved concerning the faith.” (Verse 8).
Everything that does not fit in with such peoples’ corrupted minds and incompetence concerning the faith is rejected as something evil, for example, Romans, Chapter 7. For believers, this chapter is very advanced, but these people jump straight over it, saying it is a chapter for awakened sinners. They call fellowship in Christ’s sufferings bondage, and the mystery of godliness, “Christ manifest in flesh,” as something abhorrent. The spirit of antichrist has corrupted their minds, so that “the Son of Man,” the root and offspring of David, and fellowship with Him in His sufferings as a man are foreign to them. Reconciliation in the body of His flesh through death and being presented holy and blameless and above reproach in His sight never takes place. Col. 1:22. Instead, their religion revolves around partisanship, membership registers, financial support, begging, etc. In order to ensure that everything goes smoothly, they caution against God-fearing people who do not belong to their denomination and do not contribute to their collections. This demonstrates with all clarity that for them business is greater than true godliness.
Nevertheless, in these days light also arises for the upright in every camp. Many peoples’ eyes are being anointed with eye-salve, and their minds are becoming clear. The harlot that has corrupted the whole earth is active within all denominations, and the upright distance themselves. Warnings against us are like free advertising, and for the upright of heart the Spirit of God confirms the truth. Many already thank God for the light they have received. It is just as Daniel wrote about the last times: “Many shall be purified, made white, and refined, but the wicked shall do wickedly; and none of the wicked shall understand, but the wise shall understand.” Dan. 12:10.
